Many of the customisations are there to allow for greater legibility; not necessarily there to improve aesthetics or to improve screen estate. Of note, the things I focussed on are:</p> <ul> <li>the inclusion of <code>old-style</code> numerals, where numerals have varying height. This helps distinguish between numbers and letters much easier</li> <li>changing the default width. This relaxes the &rsquo;look&rsquo; slightly</li> <li>adding tails, and/or curvature to the appropriate letters. This is more a preference item to distinguish and provide the characters a &lsquo;softer&rsquo; look</li> </ul> <p>The full config as of writing is shown below:</p>https://noraincheck.github.io/posts/the-comic-book-font/Sat, 01 Mar 2025 00:00:00 +0000https://noraincheck.github.io/posts/the-comic-book-font/<h2 id="the-comic-book-font">The Comic Book Font</h2> <p><em>March 2025</em></p> <p>One random thing I learnt is that the comic book font that you see in hand-drawn style comics is actually typically done via technical lettering tools like <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_lettering">Leroy Lettering System</a>. I&rsquo;ve been thinking of improving my handwriting and quite enjoy that &ldquo;Gothic Router&rdquo; aesthetic (which is used in this <a href="https://github.com/HeardACat/nationalpark-webfont/">blog</a>) due to its &ldquo;draft-like&rdquo; look, and unrefined appearance which emphasises on the informal nature of my writing. To that end I came across this lettering guide which I will probably lean on in the future.</p>
